Arrival of Fourth Max 8 on Island

Cayman Airways Limited has had its fourth Boeing B737-8 aircraft delivered from Air Lease Corporation (ALC) at the Boeing Delivery Center in Seattle, Washington. Before landing here in Grand Cayman, the airplane will fly over the two airports, first at 5 pm at Kirkconnell International airport in Cayman Brac and then Owen Roberts Airport here in Grand Cayman.

With the new addition, this completes the five-year programme to monderise the feet of airlines. It has been met with its fair share of difficulties

starting with the grounding of the aircraft in 2019 after there was two fatal plane crashes took place with this model plane.

Like all airlines that use the Max 8 planes, Cayman Airways has had to take the necessary precautions to ensure the safety of their aircraft and to rectify what problems caused the other two catastrophes with the same model plane. If this wasn’t enough, the pandemic then followed, which halted air travel. Officials from the national airline, still flying a reduced schedule, said that the additional plane would help the airline cope with busy times.

On January 20th, 2022, the new plane touched down at Owen Roberts International airport at around 5:33 pm. The service of the aircraft is expected to begin next month.

“While CAL is not expected to increase its routes until after the Cayman Islands moves to the final phase of its reopening plan and lifts the isolation requirements for travellers and guests, officials said the new plane will help it better manage the existing flight programme.”

There are currently three  B737-8 jet aircraft delivered to the airline brand new in operation. The latest edition of the fourth airplane is to help provide the redundancy needed to deal with the unanticipated circumstances that often arise on the busiest days for travel.

The airline is looking forward to offering improved services.
